Considered one of the most affluent communities in the region, New Maryland is a small area in Sunbury County, about nine kilometers south of Fredericton. The community, regarded as a suburb, is officially designated as a village, and was incorporated in 1991. New Maryland, along with parts of Hanwell, is the closest community outside of Fredericton.
As of 2021, New Maryland has a population of roughly 4,100 people, which has remained relatively stable over the past few years. New Maryland is only about a 13-minute drive to Downtown Fredericton, a 20-minute drive to Oromocto, and about an hour and 15 minutes to Saint John.

Along the New Maryland Highway, which runs directly to Fredericton, there are some commercial areas. High Point Plaza, for example, has a health center and a daycare, as well as some local businesses. New Maryland Place, a similar plaza, has a gas station, another daycare/after school center, and other small shops. This road provides the essentials, including convenience and supply stores, a post office, a fire station, a seniors center, and more. Wetmore-Street Pub is another local favourite.
The New Maryland Centre is a particular highlight. This facility offers event spaces and programs, with a large playground and trail system on the grounds. These walking trails are dog-friendly and weaves through the surrounding forest. Centennial Park, Shaw Park, and Orchard Park are a smaller, neighbourhood playgrounds as alternatives. This beautiful community also has one school, New Maryland Elementary School, which connects to New Maryland Athletic Park, which is slated to be revitalized in the future.
